How do I get my Pomeranian to play in the yard without me there?

I have a 4 month old Pomeranian and a fenced-in yard. Sometimes when I am cooking dinner and I know she needs to potty, I try to let her into the back yard to take car of business. Unless I go out with her, she will just bark and scratch at the back door. How do I get her to play and potty in the yard without me there?

Have you tried leaving the door open? My puppy is like that, she is so afraid to leave the room by herself. I am sure your dog just loves your company. Maybe give her some of her favorite toys or treats outside and casually walk back in and leave the door open so she knows she is not locked out. She may feel like you are abandoning her with the door shut. Hope I've helped!! :)

Put her on a chain, get her some toys, or come out there often so she gets used to it.
Good luck =)

Just leave her there. If she has to go that bad, she will go. Just leave her alone for a while(Like, for an hour) and see what she does.

Give her some toys or maybe even another dog to play with her and keep her occupied

It's boring to play by yourself. Same for dogs. She wants companionship.

Take her out to potty, then bring her back in.

Tough one. Mine do the same thing — they REALLY want to go outside, but they will only play and enjoy themselves if I'm there to watch. ;) She just doesn't want to be alone. Wait until she's done her "business" and then let her back in with you; give her a toy or a bone to chew so she's occupied while you're cooking. from now on when you're outside with her, practice coming inside IMMEDIATELY after she "goes." Eventually she'll figure out that that's all she has to do to get back in the house.

Try another friendly dog of your neighbors, about the same size. Then get them a tug-of-war rope, entice them to pull by showing with your dog first., than the nieghbor's dog. They will naturely play by themselves, and your dog will be pooped out after an hour. A tired dog is a happy dog!
If you don't like that idea, than you can hire a dog walker that you know, say a teenager who loves dogs and has one of her own. It'll only cost $10 bucks or less, and your dog will still have human company and some to take care of her.
If you can't hire any one, or can't find a trustworthy dog, than you can get her a sand box if she likes to dig. Or a kong toy stuffed with healthy treats and a bit of peanut butter.
Hope this helps!
